Lenalee... she almost died during the last battle, and she pushed the Innocence too hard while fighting. The higher-ups speculated that it was evolving, and there was talk about experiments so she could get her boots working again -- that's the form her weapon was in.

Problem is, people always die during those experiments. The Innocence doesn't react to just anyone, and it's violent when you try and force the connection. Lenalee knew the risks, and she went anyway. Not that she had much of a choice.
It's God's most valuable weapon -- doesn't really matter whose hand it's in.
She survived it though -- and her weapon became stronger. [though it's in the tone of 'not that it makes any of that okay'] But the Order's never gonna stop giving her those choices.
You know, that's more similar to what happened to me and Harrow than I'd like. [she presses her shoulder to his.] People high up just can't stop fucking around with their soldiers.
